a thin thread
a film by Andrew Hassenruck
I am sharing a haiku sort of film - My soul friend Andrew - I do words and Andrew does film. Not clever, polished stuff that creates distance, but undefended and naked. In our art-forms we are offering ourselves up from the same dance floor.
Mostly Andrew is behind the camera. He has filmed me naked as a jaybird, though fully clothed of course. I once said there’s more than one way to be naked on the Internet. I’m saying it again.
The man behind the camera is Nic Askew, while Andrew edited, parred down, took everything out except his thin thread. It is generous.
At this particular time in human history, racing along at the speed of light, there are pandemics of separation, loneliness, longing for meaning and connection. I reckon these technological tools, that are portals to both the best and the worst, can support finding each-other, as well as the most extreme ways of losing ourselves and each-other. I use these portals for the former and am so grateful to be able to really go anywhere, even within the confines of my external home address. If I was being this me a hundred years ago, I would be so isolated. Thank you LIFE for everything.
Thank you Andrew, for being a fellow pilgrim, a brother in the deepest and most uncomplicated way.
As Leonard (the man, not dog) once wrote:
Thank you, teachers.
Thank you, everyone.
